Anchoring the 72-acre Victory Park development, American Airlines Center serves as the backdrop to Dallas' most vibrant urban gathering space. Built on land that was once home to an old city dump, a meat packing plant and a retired power plant, Victory Park is the largest Environmental Protection Agency brownfield project in the United States. It was designed by David M. Schwarz/Architectural Services, Inc. and HKS, Inc. The team combined architecture and technology to give Dallas a beautiful, fan-friendly venue with lots of hi-tech touches. From its sweeping signature arches to the retractable seating, American Airlines Center's unique features single it out as the premier sports and entertainment venue in the country.

It opened in 2001 at a cost of $420 million and serves as home to the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association, and the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. The arena is also used for concerts and other live entertainment events. On the south side of the arena is AT&T Plaza (also called Victory Plaza) and it serves as the principal entrance into the facility, designed by artist Athena Tacha in 2000. The plaza provides an open space with fountains flanked by retail and office buildings. With several high-definition video displays mounted on the side of the arena and office buildings, the plaza is often used for outdoor events, the American Airlines Center, in Victory Park, is definitely the place in Dallas to visit.

About Granada Theater

Since opening its doors in 1946; Granada Theater has since seen many changes that make it the unique venue that is today. Once a beautiful film theater during the Golden Age of Cinema, seeing such films as To Kill a Mockingbird, Dr. Strangelove, and The Godfather debut, it didn’t become a music hall until John Carruth, a guitar shop owner, was able to pick up a sub-lease from United Artists who owned the theater in 1977. Carruth made massive changes to the theater’s original setup by expanding the stage, adding additional light and sound equipment, and modifying the storerooms located behind the film screens into changing rooms for the performing bands. One of the coolest changes was when the original concession stand switched gears and became a full bar, serving drinks to the crowds that came in search of a unique live musical show.

Its original run as a music hall was short-lived- even after having award winning talents such as Kenny Rogers, The Almond Brothers, and Muddy Waters rock out to crowds of 650+- Granada reverted back to film theater that specialized in the showing of cult and classic movies by 1978. Throughout the 1980’s, Grenada was a very successful movie theater by becoming famous for their eclectic “double-features” film showings that would get people driving all the way from Fort Worth just to pick up new schedules.

In 2004 The Granada Theater reopened under the management of Mike Schoder, owner of CD World (independent music stores). As a true fan of music, Schoder could see the potential in Granada was there to create a better music venue for all of Dallas. It was his installation of big-time sound and lighting systems that helped ensure one of the best concert experiences in all of Texas. Special attention to detail was issued to the lobby bringing appeal and life to the existing murals and decor, as well as decorative scrolls added to the entry doors by a local artist.

About Trees

Trees, located in the laid back, fun Deep Ellum district of Dallas is considered by the locals to be “the place” to go to for a small music concert experience. Walking up to its brick-faced entrance immediately draws eyes to the bright sign that glows with green neon giving name to what would appear to be a mere gimmick, but is actually a true representation of the nature within. There is a certain spirit that exudes once entering Trees that brings about the realization that this is meant to be more than a club. This is a sanctuary. A place built in remembrance of something bigger than simple human desires. This place was built for music, and perfected to meet the requirements necessary for the enjoyment of the great communicator. This is what the trees in Trees stand for: as a testament to something as elemental and essential as music itself. The staff is great, especially when it comes to accommodating large crowds. Drinks are prepared and delivered fast. Trees is also very good at bringing in top-notch performers, while still finding premier local talent to open shows. All of this proves that Trees cares about the musical experience of their patrons.
